Title Bilingual Emergency Services Specialist

Description The Bilingual Emergency Services Specialist (BESS) works in Home Free’s Emergency Housing and Crisis Line Program. This position provides direct service to emergency housing participants that includes crisis line coverage, short term case management (including intakes, facilitation of support services, and individualized goal planning), safety planning, monthly data collection, and statistical reporting of services provided to Hotline callers and monthly intake participants. The BESS, along with the Emergency Services Coordinator, will take the lead working to ensure Home Free’s commitment to provide a culturally appropriate response and outreach to the Latino community. This may include attending relevant trainings, providing information to Home Free staff and establishing linkages with other Latino service providers.

Requirements Reasonable combination of academic and work experience, with at least 1 year of experience providing advocacy in domestic violence and/or sexual assault program. Proven ability to respond effectively and respectfully to people from diverse backgrounds and to promote a culturally diverse work environment. Knowledge and experience providing the following services: crisis intervention, case management and survivor-centered advocacy. Ability to work in emotionally charged situations. Strong written and oral communication skills in both Spanish and English. Computer literacy: functional ability in Word, Excel, Outlook and using the Internet. Reasonable combination of skill and knowledge in the following: trauma informed services, domestic violence best practices, community based emergency housing resources. Awareness and understanding of potential barriers faced by the Latino community. Comfort providing outreach and training as well as networking and forming community partnerships. Active driver’s license, liability insurance, access to a vehicle, and ability to pass and maintain our insurer’s driving standards are required qualifications for position.
