The Production Control Technician I is responsible for assisting in the control of production, documentation and inventory maintenance for multiple groups within Consumable Operations.  The position will help standardize and improve documentation, manufacturing procedures and processes to increase production efficiency and ensure best practices are followed.  The position will also help implement new products, projects and processes within Manufacturing Operations.  Some degree of professional latitude, creativity and self-management is expected.


  • Support inventory control systems for Consumable products
  • Improve inventory management through centralized inventory analysis
  • Track shelf-life for manufactured products to ensure materials are scrapped in a timely manner
  • Assist in the review of monthly and yearly scrap reports to minimize excess inventory
  • Manage end-of-life timelines for manufactured Consumable products
  • Participate in yearly Physical Inventory activities
  • Maintain and critically review Consumable batch records
  • Track physical batch records after completion
  • Ensure authors are following good documentation practices
  • Work with QA to track electronic copies of completed batch records and organize/maintain electronic batch record files
  • Collaborate with Information Systems (IS/IT) to help maintain the Consumables label database
  • Address and resolve label database issues
  • Work with Marketing, Safety and Configuration Management to create labels for new products and update labels for existing products
  • Develop, revise and implement SOPs and other documentation supporting production
  • Reconcile and update BOM issues following Change Control procedures
  • Communicate changes to affected Manufacturing departments
  • Interact with groups such as Planning, Purchasing, Marketing, QA and QC on any issues that may arise during production
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree is required
    • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, protein sciences, cellular/molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working within a Biotech laboratory or manufacturing department
  • Experience with quality document systems in an ISO/GMP regulated environment is preferred
  • Experience with SharePoint and electronic document management systems such as MasterControl or ERP is preferred
  • Proficiency with MRP or ERP systems is preferred
  • Ability to learn additional software applications/tools, as required


  • Strong inventory fundamentals and analytical background
    • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information, identify potential problems and resolve issues
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of production
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite is required
    • Experience with standard data analysis tools (MS Excel, MS Access) and the quantitative background to advance this knowledge on the job is expected
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding manufacturing environment with changing priorities


This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
