Position Summary:

MannKind is currently seeking a Director of Corporate Procurement (CP) who will report into the VP Finance. This position will oversee and direct the Global Procurement organization. S/he will plan and manage department processes and practices to ensure alignment with business goals. S/he will drive continuous improvements initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce overall costs for the business. S/he will ensure the achievement of best results in supplier relationship and full transparency on spend and savings KPIs. This position will be based in our corporate headquarters in Westlake Village, CA.

 

The candidate will demonstrate a deep knowledge of corporate procurement processes, Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), and the ability to understand and apply business excellence principles to address challenges, raise business issues, and identify and implement cost improvement opportunities.

 

Principal responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute procurement and purchasing strategies that consider supplier selection options, quality, price, supply risk and volume/discount arrangements
  • Manage process for evaluating bids, negotiating contracts & development of innovative contract elements, and monitoring supplier performance
  • Provide thought leadership and continually identifies and implements new opportunities for further efficiency
  • Ensure best-in-class procurement processes, policies and utilization of procurement IT systems and tools
  • Collaborate with Finance and other key stakeholders to track cost savings/avoidance a regular basis vs. forecast
  • Develop effective, influential partnerships with business leaders to drive appropriate behaviors and achieve CP objectives, and maximize resource allocation
  • Visit supplier facilities to investigate capabilities, qualifications, and capacity as needed
  • Periodically evaluate and assess procurement performance vs. budget, forecast and benchmark vs. best practices
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership in ambiguous and frequently changing situations.
  • Lead and direct the procurement team and translate CP goals into specific objectives for each team member
Requirements

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Finance or Accounting or related field, MBA preferred.
  • 10 years of experience with a minimum of 5 years managing procurement organization and managing large projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • 5-7 years: Managing teams and multiple purchasing functions
  • Strategic thinking, strong in project management of complex projects.
  • Strong assertiveness and persuasiveness, ability to influence decisions, in particular on the executive level.
  • Agile decision making required.
