Title Sr. Manager, Pricing Strategy & Operations

MannKind Corporation has an opening for Sr. Manager, Pricing Strategy & Operations located in Westlake Village, CA. This position will be responsible for partnering with the VP of Market Access & Trade and extended team to develop the overarching pricing & contracting strategy for MannKind while implementing market access and trade contract operations, channel discount and rebate management, contract decision analysis, government price reporting and external vendor management. Will ensure optimal organizational profitability across all payer and distribution channels while partnering closely with accounting and finance partners as the market access and trade representative. Strong vendor management and internal collaboration with all commercial functions to ensure timely dissemination of relevant information about pricing and contracting decision making, gross to net calculations and timely dissemination of relevant reports. Reports to VP Market Access & Trade.

  • Provide strategic contracting and pricing recommendations across all managed care and distribution channels, manages customer agreements including but not limited to wholesaler, pharmacy, managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, federal government entities, group purchasing organizations, integrated health systems, health exchanges, etc. 
  • Work cross functionally with accounting, finance and account managers to manage RFP response, logistics, submission, editing and analysis of contract language, legal review, etc.
  • Regularly reviews and monitors profitability metrics across channels of business and to ensure long term favorability and viability of MannKind contract operations.
  • Leads contract modeling and analysis for ‘go’ or ‘no go’ contract decision making for senior management and/or pricing committee recommendations as needed.
  • Partner closely with account management team regarding RFP (request for proposal) submissions and logistics during negotiations and throughout the life cycle of the contract.
  • Will proactively understand and implement current and new legislation requirements, regulations and compliance related to manufacturer agreements and ensure all agreements are consistent with government requirements, internal business rules and aligned with market access and trade pricing and contract strategy. 
  • Communicate with others within the organization and employ their services as needed to ensure proper contract management is implemented. Uses decision making skills to best serve the needs of the organization and customers.
  • Develop metrics for tracking and analysis for improvements to work flow/operations and enhancements to contracting.
  • Effectively utilize and analyze multiple quantitative data sources in order to create strategic initiatives and measure contract performance.
  • Complete required training within designated timeline.
  • Represent MannKind in a professional manner at key industry conferences. 
  • Operate in full compliance of company policies and corporate governance. 
  • Responsible for observing all Company, Health, Safety and Environmental guidelines.

  • BA/BS Degree in a business or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years’ of biotech/pharmaceutical US corporate commercial experience 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managed care pricing and/or contracting strategy
  • Direct CMS, VA/DoD and government contract and price reporting experience strongly preferred
  • Brand or payer marketing and account management experience preferred 
  • Pharmacy, wholesale and limited distribution contract experience preferred 
  • Firm understanding of the regulations governing commercial and government price reporting 
  • Ability to negotiate and manage vendor relationships, RFP’s and service level agreements 
  • Proven track record for securing and improving profitability
  • Skilled in identifying healthcare business trends 
  • Action oriented, with a sense of urgency and professionalism 
  • Proven ability to understand complex contract modeling 
  • Strong planning, organizational and prioritizing skills and be able to manage multiple projects and timelines simultaneously in a fast paced environment 
  • Strong problem solving skills and business acumen 
  • Strong collaborator – respectful and accountable 
  • Experience in developing strategic plans and implementing processes 
  • Strong financial background including budget responsibilities 
  • Strong analytical skills necessary 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills 
  • Up to 25% travel required; must have a valid driver’s license
