POSITION TITLE: Field Adjuster - Property

DEPARTMENT: Property Claims/Claims

POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for conducting field based investigations, by visiting the policyholder face-to-face, to effectively analyze and resolve assigned claims consistent with Claims Department standards and company objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Fundamental/primary functions:

·Identify and investigate coverage, damage, and reserve adequacy on assigned claims.
·Apply statutes, common law, and other applicable legal and regulatory concepts for the effective, efficient and equitable resolution of assigned property claims.
·Conduct prompt, thorough, and fair on-site investigations by visiting and inspecting property. Assess, evaluate, and estimate damages and determine appropriate policy coverage.
·Communicate with policyholders, agents, contractors and other persons as needed and direct appraisers and other support service providers to ensure effective, efficient, and equitable claims resolution.
·Acquire, record and maintain all essential file documentation in accordance with established guidelines.
·Provide timely status reports regarding assigned claims to home office adjusters, management, and others.
·Identify and pursue appropriate cost containment, loss mitigation and subrogation recovery opportunities.
·Negotiate and resolve claims (which could include but not be limited to claims involving substantial or unusual damage issues, need for expert analysis or that require early recognition of policyholder concerns) within established settlement authority in a prompt, fair and equitable manner.

Occasional/infrequent functions:
·Contribute as requested to departmental or interdepartmental projects or processes that relate to the claims function.
·Conduct on-site Risk Control evaluations of existing and prospective policyholders to determine account attitude toward controlling losses.
·Assist Underwriting and agents by verifying construction class and quality, suggest risk control measures, and provide general opinion of prospective policyholders.
·Travel as needed to attend training programs, mediations/other legal proceedings, meet with the policyholders governing board, or to conduct investigation relating to claims resolution.
·Further the attainment of overall Claim Department objectives by assisting other claims personnel as needed.
·Participate and provide input in regularly scheduled departmental meetings involving collective decision-making.
·Communicate with public adjusters and attorneys to ensure effective, efficient, and equitable claims resolution.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:

Internal contacts
·Daily contact with claims personnel to receive or communicate information relating to property claims.
·Regular contact with personnel from other company departments to receive or communicate information regarding property claims.
·Occasional contact with personnel from other departments. Occasional contact with company management to communicate information regarding serious/complex property claims.

External contacts
·Daily contact with agents, policyholders, contractors, independent adjusters, vendors, attorneys, public adjusters and others relating to property claims.
·Occasional contact with reinsurers and members of trade organizations.
·Minimal contact with outside attorneys and public adjusters.

Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Essential
·Bachelor’s degree or CPCU
·Must be able to take and pass mandatory adjuster licensing requirements

·CPCU

EXPERIENCE:
Essential
·Must have 2 years or more of property claim or construction experience.
·Must be able to effectively communicate with others (both oral and written).
·Must be able to understand basic construction concepts and have a general understanding of construction materials and repair practices, methods, and techniques.
·Must be able to communicate coverage, legal and damage concepts in both an oral and written format. Must be able to make independent decisions. Must have good interpersonal skills. Must have good organizational skills. Must have the ability to handle confrontational situations in a productive manner. Must have strong negotiation skills and utilize them in the resolution of property claims. Must have a thorough understanding of construction and building trade practices related to property claims. Must have a thorough understanding of property coverage issues. Must be able to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Must be able to efficiently operate a personal computer using claims, business, and estimating software. Must have a thorough understanding of all automated Claim Department processing systems and workflows. Must be able to make physical inspections of property loss sites. Must be able to carry and climb a ladder, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect property. Must be able to verify whether coverage applies through an insurance policy, inspect property damage to determine extent of damages, and evaluate damages to ascertain compensation amounts.
·Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Have the ability to inspect losses by walking, lifting, climbing, bending, or any other physical requirement.
·Requires an active valid drivers’ license, good driving record, good driving skills, and ability to travel long distances.
·Because the company’s niche is the church and related ministries market, and because effective service requires a thorough understanding of this market, persons in this position must be familiar with church operations, and must conduct themselves in a manner that will neither alienate nor offend persons within this target niche.

Desired
·3-5 years or more of property claims technical experience or equivalent transferable experience.
·Commercial construction contracting and or estimating experience.
