Summary:

This position is responsible for managing an important portfolio of critical education and training programs that focus on Continuing Medical Education (CME), Maintenance of Certification (MOC), Part II / Self-assessment and performance improvement. These programs are directed at continuous professional development and most are aimed at the evolving needs of practicing surgeons. These are high visibility and high impact programs that bring significant recognition to the American College of Surgeons.

Responsibilities include management of course-related components made available to participants on a variety of electronic platforms, providing support for the research and development of projects based on an assortment of programs and working with program chairs, faculty and committees, assisting with performance improvement analyses and processes, and managing resources.

This Exempt position will report to the Senior Manager, Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning in the Division of Education.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manage the Comprehensive General Surgery Review Course and provide managerial level support for practice gaps / needs assessments; development of learning objectives and course content; production of course materials and resources; design of evaluation methods; management of course-related promotional efforts; management of registration; implementation of courses through live activities and e-learning platforms; learner assessments, including pre- and post-tests; self-assessments, program evaluations, and outcomes assessments. Manage the General Surgery Review Course offered at Clinical Congress and provide support for this course as above.

• Manage the ACS Surgeons as Leaders Course, including support for the faculty committee; needs assessments; development of goals, objectives and course content; production of course materials and resources; design of evaluation methods; management of promotional efforts; management of registration; implementation of courses; learner assessments, including pre- and post-tests; self-assessments, program evaluations, and outcomes assessments.

• Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of various quality improvement initiatives in response to the organization-wide goals and directives, including development and monitoring of quality and return on investment measures.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health Sciences or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Medical/surgical education required; quality of care; evaluation.
• Courses in education are required; courses and/or experience in the use of educational technology are required.
• Minimum of four years’ experience in a similar or related role is required.
• Courses and/or experience in curriculum development and implementation, learner assessment and program evaluation, documentation writing/review/proofing, instructional design, are preferred.
• Courses in project management, fiscal planning and management are valued.
• Significant experience with curriculum design and implementation and evaluation are necessary. Must have experience in designing and implementing e-learning and assessment programs.
• A solid knowledge of continuing medical education (CME) and MOC/self-assessment requirements is required in conjunction with an ability to maintain and enforce appropriate compliance standards.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to effectively interact with all levels of organization.
• Attention to detail, accuracy and organizational skills.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills. Advanced computer skills helpful.
• Display high level of energy and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to establish strong working relationships with all division teams and management.
• Experience in Associations, professional services, healthcare, and/or education desired.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is required to make specific work assignments to others and to ensure their completion. This position is required to complete a formal annual evaluation of the work performed by others.

Fiscal Management: This position is required to provide staff support to the supervisor in the development of the unit’s annual budget, program or project budget. This position is required to consult with supervisors about the status of the project or program budgets.

Physical/Work Environment: Fast paced with significant people interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stopping. Normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer.

Other Necessary Requirements: Moderate evening or weekend duties may be required. Moderate travel required (i.e., quarterly) for activities such as local or out-of-town meetings or training sessions.
