a.i. solutions is seeking a ground systems software engineer serve as part of a team developing the Restore-L Guidance, Navigation & Control Ground System (GNC GS). This mission is what NASA is all about, pushing boundaries and creating new capabilities in space. Restore-L is NASA Goddard’s satellite servicing mission and is scheduled to launch and then rendezvous and service (refuel and relocate) an orbiting spacecraft in 2020. This engineer will lead the development of the Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Ground System (RPOGS) and work with other members of the GNC GS, including the Flight Dynamics Ground System lead and the Attitude Ground System lead. The role will conduct requirements formulation, engineering analysis, design, development, integration, and testing, as well as pre-launch and post-launch support of the Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Ground System. This individual will be a member of this groundbreaking, innovative NASA mission. The successful candidate will act as an integral part of the team to ensure the goal of delivering quality products and services that meet and exceed customer expectations.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Guide requirements formulation and interface definition process; lead and oversee engineering trades to aid in the definition of the RPOGS design
  • Lead integration of the RPOGS with GNC GS subsystems; develop, unit test, and package software and scripting; collaborate with the Restore Servicing Vehicle GNC team on operational procedures and concepts, and participate in verification and validation activities (planning, execution, test reports)
  • Perform requirements analysis of mission requirements and operations concepts to develop ground system requirements and interface definitions
  • Support requirements management including flow down and traceability of requirements to lower level detailed requirements, and requirements verification and tracking
  • Develop and refine ground system architecture and system design
  • Coordinate with external elements on operations concepts, requirements, Interface Control Document development, and operations plans
  • Participate in ground system reviews including coordination of review preparation activities, preparation of review materials, and presentations of review materials
  • Develop and integrate ground system capabilities to support real-time operations
  • Develop configuration management and verification of operational procedures and operations products (command procedures, project database, display pages, and configuration monitors)
  • Support planning, preparation, and execution of ground system tests, interface testing with external elements, spacecraft interface testing, mission readiness testing, and mission simulations
  • Contribute to operations support for on-orbit mission operations
  • Coordinate with NASA customer, interfacing organizations and status reporting
  • Develop an RPOGS prototype
  • Develop, integrate and test socket interface for telemetry and command (T&C) systems

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
  • 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with software testing including automated testing frameworks in a continuous integration (CI) environment
  • Experience with C programming language in a Unix or Linux environment
  • Experience with T&C systems
  • Experience with NASA mission operations centers
  • U.S. citizenship
